Pulzeo vs the Google Ads interface

The Google Ads interface is free, comprehensive and unavoidable. Pulzeo doesn’t replace it, it plugs into it. So the real question isn’t which of the two, it’s who is advising you: the company selling you the advertising, or a tool you pay to work for you.

In short

The Google Ads interface is free and unavoidable, and Pulzeo plugs into it rather than replacing it. The difference is who advises you. Google Ads belongs to Alphabet, whose advertising accounted for $294.7 billion of $402.8 billion in 2025 revenue, nearly three-quarters. Its optimization score reflects that: Google itself writes that applying or dismissing a recommendation changes the score, so an account sitting at 100% may have turned every single one down. The score measures how you handled Google’s suggestions, not how your campaigns perform. Pulzeo, at $49/month, is paid by you, not funded by your ad spend: it ranks optimizations by impact and effort, reviews your accounts every day and alerts you on a computer, whereas Google’s custom notifications are documented for its mobile app. And it produces white-label client reports, whereas a Google Ads report can only be sent to someone you’ve given account access to.

What the Google Ads interface already does very well

Let’s start with the obvious, because tools that compare themselves to Google usually skip it: the native platform is a serious tool. The optimization score covers the main campaign types and is calculated in real time. The recommendations run to more than 80 types in the API. Automated rules change budgets, bids and statuses without a line of code. Scripts do almost anything, if you write JavaScript. A manager account can hold up to 85,000 accounts, so “the MCC can’t handle the volume” is simply false. And reports export in just about every format. Pulzeo doesn’t claim to replace any of that, and connects to it through the official API.

The optimization score measures compliance, not performance

This is the most important point on this page, and it doesn’t come from us: it’s written in Google’s own documentation. Applying or dismissing a recommendation changes the account’s optimization score. Read that again: dismissing a suggestion raises the score just as much as applying it does. An account showing 100% may therefore have rejected every recommendation. That figure doesn’t measure the health of your campaigns, it measures whether you worked through the list. And yet the score is used as a selling point, shown to clients, and written into the objectives of plenty of agencies. It’s an engagement metric presented as a quality metric.

Google’s recommendations systematically push toward more spend

This isn’t an accusation of bad faith, it’s a reading of the list. Among the recommendations Google can apply automatically are adding keywords in broad match and extending targeting to search partners: precisely the levers that widen delivery, and therefore spend. Turning auto-apply off is done type by type, with no master switch. Add some context: in August 2024, a U.S. federal court found that Google had monopolized the search text ads market and that this power let it charge supracompetitive prices. In September 2023, a Google Ads vice president testified under oath that auctions were tuned to hit revenue targets, without telling advertisers. Advice is never neutral when the person giving it is paid by the click.

Google Ads alerts: on a phone, or with a developer

This is the clearest gap for anyone running accounts. Custom performance notifications are documented by Google for its mobile app, at daily, weekly or monthly frequency, and a campaign-level notification can only be set up within a single account: so there’s no way to watch a portfolio all at once. That leaves automated rules, which do send an email, but whose standard execution delay can reach two hours after the conditions are met, and which are limited to one currency per rule, forcing you to duplicate them across an international portfolio. Or scripts, if you write JavaScript. Pulzeo offers a third way: alerts across the whole portfolio, with no phone and no developer.

The client report: impossible without giving account access

This one is clear-cut, and Google spells it out: a scheduled report is sent to you and to people with direct access to view your reports. So to send your client a report automatically, you have to open up access to the Google Ads account. They see Google’s interface, not yours, and everything you hadn’t planned to show them. There’s no white label either: a scheduled report is a table of statistics, no logo, no colors, no commentary. For an agency, that’s the exact opposite of what you need. Pulzeo reports go out under your brand, to whoever you choose, without giving anyone account access.

The manager account switches between accounts, but it isn’t a cockpit

The manager account handles the volume; that isn’t the issue. The issue is that it doesn’t answer the only question that matters in the morning: which of my thirty accounts should I act on today, and why? The consolidated view also struggles with large portfolios, with Google asking you to narrow the selection to a smaller set of accounts. A single email address can only be linked to 20 accounts. And multi-currency aggregation is left to you. Pulzeo’s multi-account view is built for that exact question: a health score per account, with the ones in trouble first.

Native Google Ads or Pulzeo: which one should you choose?

It isn’t a choice, and framing it as one would be dishonest: you’ll keep Google Ads either way, since that’s where your campaigns live, and Pulzeo reads and writes to your account through the official API. The native interface is all you need if you run one or two accounts, look at them every day, and answer to nobody. Add Pulzeo as soon as you’re running other people’s accounts: for an opinion that isn’t the seller’s, to get alerts without relying on a mobile app, to see a whole portfolio at a glance, and to deliver reports under your own brand. At $49/month, the question isn’t replacing Google: it’s getting a second opinion on what it recommends.

Common questions

Why pay for a tool when Google Ads is free?

Because Google Ads is made by the company selling you the advertising. In 2025, advertising accounted for $294.7 billion of Alphabet’s $402.8 billion in revenue, nearly three-quarters. Google Ads remains unavoidable and Pulzeo plugs into it rather than replacing it: the difference is that a tool you pay for advises you with no stake in how much you spend.

Is the Google Ads optimization score reliable?

It’s useful, but it doesn’t measure what people think it does. Google states in its own documentation that applying or dismissing a recommendation changes the optimization score. In other words, turning a suggestion down raises the score just as much as applying it. An account at 100% may therefore have rejected everything: the score measures how you handled Google’s recommendations, not how your campaigns perform.

Can Google Ads send performance alerts?

Partly. Google Ads custom notifications are documented for the mobile app, at daily, weekly or monthly frequency, and a campaign-level notification can only cover one account. Automated rules can send an email, but their standard execution delay can reach 2 hours after the conditions are met. Pulzeo analyzes accounts every day and sends alerts across the whole portfolio at once, on a computer, no phone required.

Can you send a Google Ads report to a client?

Only by giving them access to the account: Google states that scheduled reports are sent to you and to people with direct access to view your reports. There’s no white label and no styling in your agency’s colors. Pulzeo generates reports under your brand, sent automatically to whoever you choose, without opening up the Google Ads account.

Should I stop using the Google Ads interface with Pulzeo?

No, and it would be a bad idea. The Google Ads interface is still where campaigns are built and where most changes are made, and Pulzeo connects to it through the official API. Pulzeo adds the layer Google never built for agencies: an independent opinion, alerts on a computer, a consolidated view of the portfolio and white-label client reports.
