Pulzeo vs Looker Studio

Looker Studio, which Google renamed Data Studio in April 2026, is the free reporting tool almost every agency has tried. It’s powerful and it costs nothing. So the question isn’t its price, it’s what it asks of you in return, and what it will never do.

Updated August 3, 2026. Prices come from the vendor’s public pages as of that date. If they differ, the vendor’s page takes precedence.

In short

Looker Studio (renamed Data Studio by Google in April 2026) and Pulzeo don’t play the same role. Looker Studio is a free reporting canvas: you build the dashboard, you maintain it, and Google itself describes it as a tool for “personal data exploration.” Pulzeo is a Google Ads management tool from $49/month: the reports already exist, and you can trigger a sync whenever you want, whereas Looker Studio imposes a 12-hour cycle that Google says cannot be changed. The real cost of Looker Studio isn’t its price, which is zero: it’s the build time, the maintenance every time a Google API changes, and three limits Google writes down in black and white. You can’t send an alert to a client outside your organization. You can’t remove the watermark from an embedded report. And one data source reads one Google Ads account at a time.

What is Looker Studio (Data Studio)?

It’s Google’s free visualization tool: a drag-and-drop editor, over 1,400 data sources, more than 1,300 community connectors, sharing as simple as a Google Doc. In April 2026 Google renamed it Data Studio, its original name, without changing anything about existing reports. At heart it’s a canvas, and its free tier is genuinely free: no disguised trial, no cap on viewers. Google is open about what it’s for, describing it as ideal for “personal data exploration.” Remember that word: exploration. Not management.

Google Ads data freshness: 12 hours, and there’s nothing you can do about it

This is the hardest limit, and it’s written in Google’s own documentation: Google’s marketing products, Google Ads included, refresh every 12 hours, and that frequency cannot be changed. It isn’t a setting you missed, it’s a ceiling. Your Sheets sources refresh every 15 minutes, your BigQuery on demand, but your Google Ads data waits for noon or midnight. Pulzeo syncs once a day, overnight, but you stay in control: one button triggers a sync whenever you need it, and the alerts follow right away. The difference isn’t how often it syncs, it’s being able to force a sync.

Looker Studio alerts can’t reach your client

Contrary to what you often read, Looker Studio does have alerts. But read the conditions; they speak for themselves. They require Looker Studio Pro ($9 per user, per project, per month). They don’t work on blended data or on calculated fields, which rules out an alert on your own ROAS or CPA. They don’t accept “or” logic. And above all, Google writes that recipients must be members of your organization. External addresses aren’t allowed. For an agency, that’s a deal-breaker: you simply can’t tell your client anything from the tool watching their account.

White label: the Google watermark you can’t remove

Let’s be precise, because the nuance matters. You absolutely can put your client’s logo and colors inside a Looker Studio report, and plenty of agencies do it very well. What you can’t do is remove the watermark: Google’s documentation says embedded reports always contain the Looker Studio watermark and the full-screen option, and that they cannot be removed. The usual workaround is laying a rectangle over it in CSS, which is exactly the kind of patch a client eventually notices. At Pulzeo, the client reports carry your brand, with no mention of Pulzeo, from the Business plan.

The real cost of a free dashboard: who fixes it?

A dashboard isn’t a deliverable, it’s a dependency. The first cost is the build: even an agency that likes Looker Studio puts the first dashboard at four to eight hours, from design to finishing touches. The second cost, more insidious, is maintenance. When Google changes its API your reports break, and nobody fixes them for you. In 2024, removing the Auction Insights fields broke existing reports. On April 30, 2026, Google announced the end of the location extension fields for May 4: four days’ notice, and reports returning an error. Your recourse is a forum post. When something breaks at Pulzeo, it’s our job, not yours.

One account per source: the limit that hurts when you manage a portfolio

Google’s documentation is clear: a Google Ads data source connects to one account, and a manager account is capped at 50 sub-accounts per source. Add the limit of five tables per data blend, and Google’s own warning that blends “may slow performance,” and you see why agency reports crawl, usually at the start of the month, exactly when you’re sending them. Pulzeo is built for portfolios from the ground up: the multi-account view aggregates your accounts without you blending anything by hand.

Looker Studio or Pulzeo: which one should you choose?

Keep Looker Studio if you need custom visuals, if you blend sources we don’t cover, or if you already have a BigQuery warehouse and someone to look after it: for that, it’s a remarkable tool, and free, and you don’t have to choose. Plenty of our customers keep their dashboards. Choose Pulzeo if what you want is to deliver a clean client report every month without building it, to trigger a sync when you need one rather than waiting for the next refresh, and to know what to fix rather than only what you spent. Looker Studio shows your data. Pulzeo tells you what to do with it.

Common questions

Looker Studio or Pulzeo for Google Ads reporting?

Looker Studio is a canvas: you build the dashboard, you maintain it, and it’s free. Pulzeo is a Google Ads management tool from $49/month: the reports already exist, the sync is daily (and you can trigger one whenever you want) and the tool tells you what to fix. If you enjoy building dashboards and your need is visual, Looker Studio does the job. If your need is delivering client reports every month without spending your evenings on them, Pulzeo is built for that.

Is Looker Studio really free?

Yes, the standard version costs nothing for creators or viewers. Looker Studio Pro is $9 per user, per project, per month. Mind the fine print: a Pro subscription attaches to one and only one Google Cloud project, and licenses are billed whether they’re used or not. An agency that isolates each client in its own project therefore multiplies the bill by the number of projects.

How often does Looker Studio refresh Google Ads data?

Every 12 hours, and Google states that this frequency cannot be changed. It’s specific to Google’s marketing products (Google Ads, Analytics, Search Console); Sheets or BigQuery sources refresh far faster. Pulzeo syncs Google Ads accounts once a day and lets you trigger a sync on demand, on every plan.

Can you send a Looker Studio alert to a client?

No. Looker Studio alerts exist, but only on Looker Studio Pro, and Google’s documentation is explicit: recipients must be members of your organization; external addresses are not allowed. Alerts also don’t work on calculated fields or blended data, which rules out an alert on your own ROAS or CPA. Pulzeo sends its alerts to whoever you like.

Can you remove the Google logo from a Looker Studio report?

Not on an embedded report: Google writes that embedded reports always contain the Looker Studio watermark and the full-screen option, and that they cannot be removed. You can, however, place your client’s logo and colors inside the report. At Pulzeo, client reports are fully white-labeled from the Business plan ($129/month).
