Common questions
How do you calculate a max bid?
Your max bid, or max CPC, is your target CPA multiplied by your conversion rate. For example, with a target CPA of $40 and a conversion rate of 5%, max CPC is 40 × 0.05 = $2. Above that, every acquisition costs more than your target.
Why not just bid as low as possible?
A bid that’s too low costs you volume and ad position: you miss clicks that would have paid off. The goal isn’t the lowest CPC, it’s the highest CPC that’s still profitable. The max bid is exactly that ceiling: above it, you lose money.
Max bid or target CPA with automated bidding?
Most accounts run on Smart Bidding (Target CPA or Target ROAS) these days. Max CPC is still a useful benchmark: it helps you judge whether a keyword or a segment is viable, set realistic target CPAs, and manage the campaigns still on manual bidding.
